Given the awesome launch of the Torrid Fall plus size denim campaign, and the fact I am smack center in it climbing a ladder like a luscious lemur lady, I decided to devote this weeks haul to one of my favorite retail stores.
Here’s the video. I try on lots of cuts I’d never tried from Torrid before and frankly I loved everything. Links below to all the items I tried on!
Super excited to create my own style spin on this amazing Karina Dress. I challenged myself, I pushed my boundaries and used this currently cotton candy pink clad noggin to flower the purty Penelope Dress with 3 fabulous fashion variations. We’ve got floral go with the flow cool, bloomin’ and ready for business, and peonies be popping night out look. Which one is your favorite?
Floral Go with Flow Cool I make the most of a dress by using a belt to reduce the height to a more proper tunic length. I spice it up and add a dash of cool by donning a funky homemade t-shirt fringe scarf (tutorial here) instead of a necklace. I pack a punch with cheap but chic gas station sunglasses and use simple black leggings and mint t- strap sandals to complete the look.
Bloomin’ Business Casual
I made my hair look all fancy using this very simple tutorial I love. Its seriously is so easy peasy and your hair looks gorgeously curly when you take it out. Hell yeah, two day dirty hair that still looks deliciously good. I brought the tangerine accents in the Penelope dress forward by adding my pretty and perfectly peach blazer from Target. It gives this look a classy corporate style an unexpected pop. I kept all other accents very neutral and simple- black peep toe flats, a cocktail ring and vintage pearl earrings.
Peonies be Popping
The final look is made to surprise. I use one of favorite style tricks and lengthen this party dress by adding a black tutu underneath. The tutu adds length and structure- which is important. That way the dress won’t fly up while I’m getting down with my bad self. I added some visual interest by adding a thick black leather bow belt and metallic leather earrings. I created an unexpected charm to the look by ditching heels for reflective mint loafers. I love pairing unusual flats with dressy looks, you’re more comfortable AND you make a statement,
A huge thanks to Karina Dresses for providing this sassy frock for me to wear and style as I pleased. I truly loved it and I can’t wait to take this glorious garb for a night on the town. The vintage floral is amazing and I love that the colors in the print are bright and unexpected. It’s not your typical floral dress. FYI: They didn’t pay me to say that. I have truth syndrome. I can’t lie. I love this dress!
Fun fact, I didn’t actually get to go to the happiest place until college, when my roommates organized an elaborate road trip to the park in California. I suppose this is when i first realized I deeply relate to Aladdin. See I paid for this entire trip primarily by cheekily asking strangers if I could borrow a quarter. If people think you’re begging, you’ll be met with an outright “hell no, get a job lazy pants”. However, if you ask to borrow a menial amount- say 25 cents- they will give you the trivial sum, forget they did it, and keep trucking on with their lives. Over time those quarters turn into dollars, which turn into 10s, which eventually can result in $358.25 of victory spoils from a local coinstar machine. I deeply regret not taking a picture of me lying on a bed, draped in my cloak of newly earned George Washington plunder. Sigh. The opportunities in life I have missed.
For this Jasmin inspired looked I rocked some serious Amazon search magic. This turquoise jumpsuit is a nice alternative to the two piece Jasmin wears and looks less cartoon cosplay. Not that cosplay is bad, it just has it’s time and place. I also lock down Jasmin’s signature necklace– a score at just over $4. The remaining jewelery I used items I already had- a pair of my gold earring’s I inherited from my mother and a long gold necklace, because one necklace is not enough for a plus size princess. I finished the look with a chain head piece from divalicious jewelry and gold sandals from ideel.
For Jasmin’s royal make-up I added a very thick cat eye with an otherwise neutral eye. I added a soft pink lip to complement the existing look and not draw focus off the eyes. Jasmin’s signature hair is impossible for a white girl with stringy hair to rock. As an alternative, I curled my hair, using her trademark center part as a nod to the character’s normal hair style. The result is an updated and fresh princess look.
Now to find my street rat of a lover and take a ride on his magical carpet. However, let him have a dog instead of a monkey. Monkeys throw poo and I am not down with feces projectiles.
Someday my prince will come. Someday I will find the one. Though he’s far away, he’ll find my love someday. Someday when my dreams come true….oh please make my dreams come true
Oh Snow White, we have SOOOOOO much in common. After what seems 3 months of tremendously awful dates, I needed a little something to give a little umph to my perspective. So today I am channeling my inner Snow White in hopes that maybe I’ll gnosh on a bad apple, make friends with a collection of little people with hygiene issues, and finally meet my one true love. Oh man, I hope this doesn’t mean he has to be into brutally murdering forest animals. But that’s a whole other story.
For this plus size Snow White look, I paired a bright yellow pleated full skirt with a sassy royal blue flare crop top with a sweetheart neckline. Both items are from the eloquii. I styled the look with yellow transparent sandals, a red vintage bow tie and an potentially poison apple (it has been on my counter fall too long to still be edible). The look screams Snow White while also having a more modern yet 50s retro vibe that I adore.
Now hair and make up is really where I think I nailed it. Well at least that what I keep telling myself, because it took forever. It’s not easy task to make a long haired girl, look like she’s actually got a rockin’ curly bob. To achieve this I set my hair in teeny tiny foam rollers, heated them and let them set for several hours. Afterwards I finger combed my hair and pinned the blue tips underneath the rest of my hair- the texture of the curl helping to hold the bobby pins. For my make up I paired a red MAC lipstick, with my base foundation, rose cheek and a traditional pin-up eye. I also darkened my eyebrows to add to the vintage feel.
Ah, the summer solstice is upon us again…a time to celebrate the joy, warmth, and laughter of summer. It can be a time of purification (schedule that colonic!), renewal (Netflix subscription!), and healing of the self and soul (or as I call it, a three day weekend binge drinking in Cabo). And in the Glamorous World of Glitter, that means it’s also time to renew my wardrobe for SUMMER VACATION! In order to kick off what is sure to be my most kick ass summer ever, I’ve compiled Glitter’s Summer Essentials Guide. Whether your excursions are for work or for play there will be no sacrificing of style (or humans for that matter) when you stick with these six fundamental pieces.
Wide Brimmed Hat
What is more glamorous than lounging pool side with a wide brimmed hat protecting that delicate porcelain skin? (Or, in my case, trying to hide the smeared mascara from channeling my inner Ke$ha the night before.) These hats offer great sun protection while looking chic and sophisticated. So go ahead and brush your teeth with a bottle of Jack, a wide brimmed hat is sure to hide your previous evening’s indiscretions. Five below, has a ton of these cuties, at $5 a pop, you can score few without feeling guilty.
Tribal Print Romper
Plain and simple, rompers are THE laziest way to look fancy. And the tribal print is so popular right now because it creates the illusion of being tall and slim. Not to mention they are so comfortable and require literally no effort to wear. Fancy, tall, slim and comfortable?? Sign me the hell up. I’ve pretty much fallen head over heels with Rue 21’s rompers this season, 2 for $25? I’ll take them all!
Colorful Sarong
First of all, can anyone say the word “sarong” without breaking into Sisqo’s 1999 Summer Anthem “Thong Song?” It’s a challenge to even type “sarong” without singing in my head “Sa-rong, sa-rong, sa-rong.” Sarongs are extremely versatile; for about $9.99 on Amazon (link here) you’re looking at something that can be used as a skirt, shirt, scarf, belt, and bathing suit cover-up. Your dress will be so scandalous and ya know the other brothers couldn’t handle it. Curses…there’s that Sisqo again!
Floral Shorts
For so long I was afraid to wear patterns on the lower half of my body because it makes ze butt look big. Well newsflash people: my butt is big and I’m proud! In fact, I’m so proud I have decided to dub this “the summer of the bootay.” Floral shorts can take a simple t-shirt and class it up. T-shirt with khaki shorts gives the impression that you’re a young food delivery kid. But a t-shirt and floral shorts and suddenly you are Ms. Fancy Pants strutting her stuff down Rodeo Drive. Live the dream, free the bootay.
Retro Style Sunglasses
Retro Style Sunglasses instantly adds something different to your look. It’s a finishing piece to any outfit, really. Plain and simple: they are cool. I love them. I own several. You should, too. **drops mic**
Chambray Shirt
Is there anything hotter than Jay Leno’s denim on denim look? When that handsome silver fox would do his “man on the street” bits for the Tonight Show I must say that this girl really stood up and paid attention. We can’t all be as visually stunning as Jay Leno, but we can invest in a great Chambray Shirt. White shirts get so dirty so easily (here’s looking at you, last night’s queso). A good chambray shirt will hide dirt, be visually interesting and won’t wrinkle as much. And for you jet setters, they travel really well. This is truly a great staple for your wardrobe. (Also…call me Jay Leno. I’m available.)
There you have it; six essentials for any summer wardrobe. Here’s to summer and its long days and short nights! Let’s truly make Summer 2015 The Summer of the Bootay (bootay rockin everywhere)!
