OOTD: Multi-Color Magic

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

We all know I am a sucker for a bold, sassy, fearless, menagerie of color print, and this lovely faux wrap skirt from Nyata meets all my technicolor needs. I like this brand for a few reasons: First they don’t use numbers for their sizes and instead choose positive adjectives to describe each size on the spectrum. Would you rather wear a size 20 or a size “amazing.” I’d choose amazing any day, because I am every day. Always. Self love, high five yah’ll.

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

Second, is the meaning in the name of the brand itself. Nyata means “real” in Indonesian, and Amber the designer created the label to encourage women that regardless of their size they are a real person, and important part of this magical world.

Plus Size Fashion Nyata
Lastly, Nyata boasts lots of staple prints. The type of timeless patterns that I believe endure beyond a single season. I believe every girl should own one bold printed frock that emerges each year with the same bravado it radiated the year before. I feel these prints have those types of chops.

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

I love being bathed in colors and wearing this skirt just makes me happy. It’s the type of print you look down at and just smile because it’s a bold display of fabric emotion. How can a girl not be happy candy-coated in such lovely hues?

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

I wanted to keep the styling simple and let the skirt be the star. But life isn’t simple, and either am I. Let’s be real, I am complicated mess. At least my fashion sense is a true reflection of self.

18 Rad Places to Buy Plus Size Fitness Leggings

18 Rad Places to Buy Plus Size Fitness Leggings

The thing I get asked most frequently is about my collection of plus size fitness leggings. Where did I get them? Do they fit well? Here’s a list of all the places I buy fancy schmany rainbowy work out leggings, why I like them, and other random thoughts. Later I will be working on a post which outlines how to choose the right pair of leggings for you based on activity, body types and personal needs.

Old Navy Plus Size LeggingsOld Navy

Old Navy is one of the only brands to offering cold weather warming gear and base layers. For a girls who runs 3x a weeks no matter the temperature, they have been my saving grace. Their gear is a solid bargain when you consider what you are getting for the price: stylish, everyday fitness wear, with a good fit. My own warning would be is to never put them in the dryer. I have notice they use elasticity a bit quicker than the more boutique legging shops.

Lineage Plus Size LeggingsLineage

I was lucky enough to win a pair of lineage leggings as part of a yoga challenge. One wear and I was hooked. They are some of the best fit leggings I have ever owned. What I enjoy most about them is that for a girl just getting into fitness they are your dream leggings- there’s enough compression for aerobics, but enough stretch to make it a solid yoga legging. Plus the patterns are eye catching and amazing.

Fractal.9 Plus Size LeggingsFractal.9

Fractal.9 leggings were some of the first yoga gear I ever bought. All their gear is bold and sassy, but I absolutely have an obsession with their sweet cheeks cut. They have an adjustable length, and in hot yoga they can’t be beat. I am so happy that Fractal.9 has created such an necessary staple designed with the plus body in mind.

pr_starstruck_front_1024x1024Personal Record

Personal record makes what I consider one of my favorite pairs of leggings. The fit is great and the waist has a lot of support and does not slip during heavy aerobic exercise. Also, they’re like wearing a Liza Frank sticker on your body, which is pretty much my life goal.

Lola-Getts-Skinny-CapriLola Getts

Lola Getts hands down makes my favorite black legging. I don’t want to call them basic, because they aren’t. They fit like a dream, transition from day to night, and have excellent compression. They are expensive, but they last forever. Seriously, they have made it through more thunder thigh rubbing than any pair of fitness pants I have ever had.

Sport Skirts Plus Size LeggingsSkirt Sports

Skirts sports offers us girls something a bit different. Don’t worry, each skirt had shorts or leggings underneath, making it the ultimate plus size girly girls run gear. But don’t be fooled, skirt sports clothing is designed for serious runners, with all the right support and moisture wicking a girl could ask for. Plus, oh the pockets! Their skirted capri is one of my long run go tos.

Abomb Apparel Plus Size Leggings

Abomb Apparel

Abomb is fun yoga brand, that offers custom fit pants. While not suited for heavy aerobics, Abomb pants are the perfect partner in crime for getting flexy. They offer more stretch and give than a compression pair. My leopard leggings have a scrunch butt which show off my assets and make me feel like a sexy yoga goddess.

Breeze Activewear Plus Size LeggingsBreeze Activewear

I had my first workout in Breeze leggings this week and I was impressed. These leggings are cut extremely well for pear shaped girls. I enjoy that they offer a little more thigh and butt room, with out compromising the support in the waist and stomach area. Rarely do I find leggings that fit my pear shape so perfectly.

Yogaletics Plus Size LeggingsYogaletics

Yogaletics creates amazing prints and thank goodness designd them with no annoying camel toe creating center seam. I love yogaletics so much because they are constantly rotating designs. Plus the understand that there is no such thing as a legging that works perfectly for every exercise, so they create variations to support different types of being active.

Plus size leggings k deerK-Deer

I’ve been obsessed with this brand for awhile and I only recently found they offer plus sizes. I’m saving up for this awesome pair of neon striped leggings because I was born to have my body clad in neon and doing so while also raising to fingers in the air to the stereotype of women not being able to wear stripes is the best feeling ever!

Zzella plus size leggingsella

Offered by Norstrom this brand offers practical work out gear that is flattering and reusable. I have a lot of love for their reversible pair of leggings. What girl doesn’t love being able to have her fitness gear go the extra mile? That said, do not wear them for a work out and expect to reverse them for the next day. That’s just nasty.

Torrid plus size work out gearTorrid

This set just speaks to me on so many levels. Personally I haven’t worn Torrid gear, but people keep telling me to check it out. This set is making me go gaga, so as soon as I have the monies, girl it is on. I think anything that reminds the world I am a star, is a must own.

Pink Lotus Plus Size LeggingsPink Lotus

Pink Lotus has just recently begun offering plus size gear, but they are coming in with a bang a rang. This particular look caught my eye because its what I imagine what euphoria looks like in a workout gear twin set. I like that they are kicking off their line with bold prints, because they understand the plus size world  doesn’t need another store offering an uninspired black fitness legging.

My Manifesta plus size leggingsManifesta

I feel these shark attack leggings were made to worn on the work outs during shark week. I don’t own them, but I want them. I think about this often, the amazing visual pun that could be made. The inside joke that could keep me giggling through a tough workout. Manifesta is a often loved plus size work out gear brand and makes its solid bet when searching for fitness fun leggings.

katie K Plus Size LeggingsKatie K

Katie K is a newer discovery for me, but I am loving how there leggings are perfectly designed for running. A nice side pocket allows for storage, which not all leggings provide. This is a main selling point for a girl like me who has already had to put her phone in a bag of rice several times due to phone damage from boob sweat. With pants like these, I wouldn’t have to rely so much on Uncle Ben.

Marika Plus Size LeggingsMarika

Marika is my best kept secret, well Marika purchased at Marshall’s. It’s the brand that no one know about, but is a great inexpensive brand. Plus any company that makes metallic splattered leggings needs to be on my list.

Rainbeau Curves Plus Size LeggingsRainbeau Curves

Rainbeau curves is love by some of my favorite plus size yoga goddesses. They make great prints and are exceptionally affordable.  I love that they are so active in the community and do more than just create great active wear, but also support some many amazing women who are amazing examples in the plus size fitness community.

Just Curves OnederJust Curves

Just Curves gets the inovation award. I really appreciate what they are trying to do to not only create great plus size work out gear, but all reinvent those items to better support plus bodies. A great example of this is the Oneder suit, which provides compression on the back as well. I’ve been lusty after this lace and purple since it came out, mostly because i feel like it might be the sexiest thing to wear working out, ever.

I absolutely love this  cover up/tunic/ dress/ whatever it is from a new plus size fashion designer on the block, Qurvii. I kept it simple by wearing it with my trusty Lola Getts leggings and my favorite Asos metallic heeled brogues. The belt is an oldie but good from igigi the sunglasses are a street buy from Los Angeles. Lest we forget that tasty cupcakes, from Austin’s own Hey, Cupcake.

Tuesday I amped up the sexual prowess with a lovely steal of a dress from ideel. The red heels from UK’s New Look said, Take me serious or I will cut you. I accessorized the look with sleek hair, red MAC lipstick and a bold Vince Comuto cocktail ring.

Plus size fashion blog plus size outfit ideas 3Wednesday I had my favorite costar tag along to show of one of my favorite summer looks. The jacket is from the most recent release from Fabletics the crop is a vintage tee that I got crafty with and created myself. The jeans- shocker- are from Eddie Bauer proving that you really should experiment and  shop everywhere. Lastly the shoes are Cole Haan.

plus size fashion blog plus size outfit ideas 4Thursday things got a little weird, as they tend to do with me.  The dress is from Simplybe worn again over Lola Getts Leggings and topped with a target style vest. I snazzed up the look with my favorite chucks, a reclaimed vintage necklace and a steal of a monster hat from Five Below. Also pigtails, I forgot how cute you could be!

plus size fashion blog plus size outfit ideas 5Friday I played homage to my addiction for jail time rabble rousing in this Orange is the New Black inspired look. I’m wearing a Urban Outfitters pork pie hat ( from the men’s section) and bold statement earrings (illlllluminatiiii) from Top Shop and my favorite orange tunic from New Look. I threw on my comfy Old Navy leggings and the most comfortable heeled boots in the world from Jones to round the look out. I ended up looking criminally good.

plus size fashion blog plus size outfit ideas fatkiniSaturday I kept the swimwear sexy realness coming STRONG. I paired one of my favorite seasonal finds, a wide brimmed hat from Five Below, with a pin up style suit from Target. I layered the look with an aztec inspired necklace from Oliver Bonas, a lovely $7 sarong from Amazon and some sassy metallic leather flats from Asos.

plus size fashion blog plus size outfit ideas 7Sunday I kept it lazy, comfy and low key. I styled my hair with a vintage scarf tied into a bow and added depth by wearing it with a patterned tunic from Marimekko. Styled with a pair of  basic black capris, a pair of red Cole Haan brogues and stand out gold statement necklace… this low key look still turns heads.

Plus Size Fashion Round Up: What I Wore this Week

Plus Size Fashion Round Up: What I Wore this Week

Plus Size Fashion Summer Maxi DressMonday’s look screamed “SUMMMMMER” loud an clear. I kept it simple pairing a dress I scored for $15 off Groupon with some vintage jewelry I inherited from my mother. I added a super sassy pop of color with a pair of teal sandals from Target.

Plus_Size_Disney_Outfit_Sportswear_FashionTuesday I notched the weird factor up to an extreme and rocked this anime inspired look. I paired a t-shirt from my last visit to Disney World with acid jean shorts worn over purple disco pants (both from Amazon). I topped off the look with an Old Navy Sweat shirt, Nike Sky Hi Dunks and some earring from Sparkle City Jewelry made of actual sprinkles!!

Plus Size Fashion Career WearWednesday I kept it oh so classy while also keeping oh so fun. I paired a bright sexy secretary blouse from Monif C with a bold splatter painted skirt from Miss Guided. I accented the look with Crocs ( yes, Crocs!), a light up ring from Target, and my adorable pooch- Data.

Plus_Size_Romper_Outfit_Fashion_OutfitThursday I brought some juicy thighs and some tribal realness. I paired an adorable romper from Rue 21 with a vintage blazer from Calvin Klein. I accented my waist with a fun belt from Lane Bryant and styled the look with a top bun, some of my personal earrings, and that light up ring (again).

Plus_Size_Fashion_Street_Wear_Outfit_TshirtFriday is about comfort in the house of color and glitter. I let me favorite theme tshirt (from Woot) be the star of the show. I styled the look with a big sassy scarf bow. Because if I don’t wear at least on head bow a week, I get cranky.

Plus_Size_Fashion_Fatkini_Beachwear_OutfitSaturday I continued my tradition of rocking my finest swimwear. I strutter my stuff in a Forever 21 Fatkini with a scarf-turned sarong- that I purchased from Amazon. I styled the look with some well worn Tevas ( God, they are so comfy), vintage sunglasses, and again that little pink, light up ring from Target.

Plus Size Fashion Streetwear Casual OutfitToday’s outfit was a little bit of love for my new home state of Texas. I giggled hysterically at this Skinny Limits food truck. My life struggle as a mantra on a mobile machine of food. I’m wearing a chambray dress from old navy over Lola Getts leggings. I top the Look off with a Goorin Brothers Hat, a sassy obi belt, an Hermes scarf, vintage earrings and my favorite cowboy boots that I picked up in Brasil. Lets not forget the amaze balls Texas straw which I snagged from Five Below, the one store that I really feels understands all my kitsch needs.

And that’s the week in review. That’s it. There’s no more. I swear. Stop reading. The End.

Red, Black + Tutu All Over: The Basics of Wearing a Ballet Skirt

Red, Black + Tutu All Over: The Basics of Wearing a Ballet Skirt

plsu size tutu crop top bomber jacker

Look one: This tutu is for a fun night out that you probably wont remember in the morning. Forever21 crop top topped with a Sejour print bomber paired with vintage accessories and chucks.

The other night I had some drinks. And by had some drinks, let’s just say I was “high-fiving strangers and inventing new dance moves that later get turned into animated gifs by your friends” drunk. When one gets to this special place, we sometimes come upon “great ideas.” My great idea was that I desperately needed tutus, that this was going to be my thing, and that one would not not be enough to fulfill my my tutu wearing fantasies.  A couple of drunken amazon clicks later, I passed out and life moved on…. Until the following Monday.  Two tutus show up, that I don’t remember purchasing and I have no idea what I going to do with. Does this feel like a poorly written sitcom? If I added sound effects would it take it the next level and maybe get pick up on ABC Family?

plus size tutu formal wear

Look two: Stand out at a party by laying two different colored tutus ( black tutu is Charlotte Russe plus) and pairing with a simple crepe black top from forever 21. Top off the look with bold boutique jewelry + Cole Haan wedges.

So I put two fingers in the air and I played around with said tutus (score the red on here) and I came up with so many ideas. I forced myself to pair down and stick to a theme (red and black). You’ll see my four looks pepper through here, but trust me I had so much fun I am sure I could have come up with waaaay more.

Play time helped me arrive at some legit tutu related conclusions in addition to these super sassy photo montages. Read on little chickadees, and get ready for just how to add a little tulle to your today wear.

Plus size tutu vintage tshirt look

Look three: I paired my favorite t-shirt with a chambray short sleeve shirt and my tutu. Look is accented by red crocodile leather, bedazzled cheetah earrings, Cole Haan shoes and a serious attitude problem.

1. It’s just a skirt. Remember regardless of it’s fluffiness, a tutu is really just a skirt. If you have a red tutu (like the one I used in this shoot) try to think of it as just another red, swing skirt. This will push you to try new things.

2. Let the tutu be the star. It’s easy to over style a tutu. It’s tempting. It’s just a ball of fun, and you want to just throw bling and sparkles and all other manner of shit at it. However the skirt is the statement, so resist the urge to over do it.

3. Leggings are your best friend. Let’s be real here, tutus can be pretty damn see through, so plan to wear biker shorts or leggings under a skirt if you want to have a tutu moment. Or commit to that whole exposed nether regions, Hollywood look.

4. Experiment with placement. Looks that appear awful when the skirt is worn at the waist, might just look awesome when the skirt is worn just below the bust. The same is true with the hips. Make sure to give yourself some time to figure out what works best for your shape and the styling.

5. Confidence is key. If you wear a tutu skirt and constantly tell people its a tutu skirt and that you feel awkward, then it simply wont work. If you stand proud with a “damn I look good” smile, people are going to think the same. Plus they’ll probably comment on how they wish they could be as bold as you and how sexy-sassy-fierce-awesome you look.

6. Have Fun. It’s a mother effing tutu, not divorce court. Everyone should own a piece of fashion that makes them feel like their playing dress up. IMHO, Tutus are like the unopposed president of that “fun” category.  It’s not rocket science. Put on that tutu. Rock some sweet sweet jams. Play around with your clothes. Taylor swift and your self esteem will love you for it.

plus size tutu winter look

Look four: A tutu refuses to be seasonal. This winter look pairs an over-sized sweater and leggings from Old Navy with the shirt. Topped with an Irregular Choice scarf, vintage jewelry, and red pumps from New Look.
