I want all of you to know I made this backdrop. You know casually taping (because the backs weren’t sticky enough) 400 some bows to a random wall in Austin, Texas to make plus size fashion Christmas magic. Actually I can’t take all the credit. I was helped through the whole process by my amazing photographer, Chelsea. She also “back seat bowed me”, ensuring the colors and patterns were evenly spaced and aesthetically pleasing. I will never look at the placement of a peppermint striped bow so casually again.
Christmas Renegades
It took 400 bows, two rolls of tape, 2 hours, a never ending playlist of yuletide hits and a wall we did not own to complete this whimsical design. Hell yes, we were yule time bandits, holiday hooligans, Christmas renegades! Well, as rebellious as two girls covering the world in pretty bows can be. We were inspired by a photo background that blogger, Splendid Rags created and offered our own softer take on the idea. The end result rivaled an Anthrolopogie store window, which is pretty much every slightly quirky hipster girl’s dream.
Christmas Grafitti
The best part about this is that not one passer by seemed concerned in our endeavor to deck the walls with boughs of bows. Most stopped to comment on how pretty it was. We joked that must have walked away thinking, “Man, I love living in Austin. People do the coolest things here!” because we were doing a cool thing like cool people in a cool city do. Maybe we should do this cool thing more, make it some sort of new festive graffiti. Like yarn bombing, but for the holidays… Christmas bombing! I like it.
We’ve Been Scrooged
Sadly within 24 hours the grounds crew for the building we assembled this master piece on, Scrooged us. I woke up the next day to find that some Grinch has removed every single trace of our festive decorating. Not a single bow in sight. No more sparkle. No more glee. Just a plain white, Christmas-less wall.Weep womp.
I was going to do your typical black Friday post, but then I was like, screw that. Like do you really need another blog with links and sale descriptions? I don’t know how to make that original. I’m not that clever at 5 am after eating my weight in carbs. However, I do know there’s some items you’ve flipped over the last few months that are now super cheap. So here’s a list of things you’ve loved, that are now at prices you can also love. Each of the titles above the item click directly to the store.
Somedays you just want drown your face in a pile of stuffed animals. On those days I wear faux fur. Then at any time during the day I can sweep my chin against the wafts of plush surrounding my face and feel at ease. I can also reenact 1980s skiing adds ( like down below) whenever it suits me. Look at me I am just having such a fun time at this sky resort, with all my rich friends, in our ski bunny attire and making important calls on our large cell phones. Thanks for asking.
As a super pear I usually belt my fur vests. This is because I like to have a defined shape and often when wearing a fur vest my waist can get lost in swaddles of plushy fabric. I like a cinch to define my curves. It’s a thing.
A Round of Applause for Wearable Heels
I just want to give a quick shout out to heels that feel like flats. A once inch block heel changed my life. I love the way heels make my feel, but for real yo I don’t know how any one survives in 3 inch stunners, let alone some of the crazy stilettos I see. I didn’t train to be in the circus. I have not intention to walk on stilts. I don’t want to paint my face, wear, spandex and entertain you. Wait nope, I actually do want to do that. Just not on stilts.
A block heel makes me feel supported, and the inch height means even if I’m on my feet all day- like Gloria Gaynor- I Will Survive. Plus this red color perfectly mixes the “no place like home” wishes of Dorothy and the footwear that Elvis Costello reminded us only angels can be envious of. Can I make any more song references in this post? Well, woomp there it is (shaka laka shaka laka)

So the 90s were awesome and I 100% support any touches of their style flair Ive seen creeping into fall wardrobes. My personal favorite? Dress over shirts. The easiest of these flourishes to rock being, pairing a summer swing dress over a turtle neck to create an adorable fall look that no one can argue is out of season.
One of the main reasons this looks so fresh is the child like concept making a nod to that saved by the bell fashion favorite, but the more structured layers saying- ” Hold up I’m an adult now. I got this.” Want to make a style flash back? For a more casual look, you can try rocking a more informal variation by wearing ringer t-shirt under a strappy summer sundress.
Another key fall trend is purses you wear.. yup bring back those fanny packs. The trend is actually much larger than just that. Models this season were wearing purses as necklaces, anklets and capes. Many of these bold stunners aren’t practical, but an upscale fanny pack has the right flair to acknowledge this fashion time while at the same time not being too out there or conceptual. This isn’t a trend, but let me give a shout out to brogues. Ladies if you don’t own a pair, you should. This is the one style of shoes I’ve seen endure years of love and always remains relevant. Brogues are darn comfortable, can be a little edgy and just awesome. Invest in a pair, they’re worth it.
Want to rock this look? First explore your closet, that’s what I did. Many of these pieces are items I’ve loved and worn many times before. That said, if you’re in need of a few of these pieces, here’s some items to help you rock this
Leather waist bag: Etsy is a treasure trove for such things, and most designers will custom make it for you regardless of your waist size. These particular mini waist bags caught my eye.
