It’s Business Time, So Here’s to Never Shutting Up

I haven’t written on this blog in what seems like ages. I suppose its because I’ve been in a bit of rut. Writing A Life Full of Glitter took more out of me than I originally realized. On top of that, life has been hard to the ones I love and I’ve made it a priority to be there for them. That’s the rough spot about being in the position I am, my energy is asked for in so many places and sometimes I just burn out because I’ve spread myself too thin. It’s the people pleaser in me. I just want everyone to be a little bit happier.

One of the things that was 100% holding me back was my silly belief I could actually make everyone happy with what I create. That if I worked really really hard and put all my heart into it that eventually I would unlock some secret formula to the perfect piece of prose and imagery. However, the comments and engagement on my content only got more polarizing, I only became more and more distraught.

My content creation became backed in fear. I would get anxious every time I posted something. What would they hate about me today? How would I fail to deliver? Sometimes it was the fit of my pants. Sometimes it was misunderstandings. Sometimes it was the color of my shirt. Some days it was my make up. Every day there was a new reason for people to be disappointed in me. This was all I could see. The failures.

So i began to take my heart out of the work, and I wasn’t as me as I have been before. I’d never really had anxiety and I didn’t know how to deal with it. I had to learn new skills and evolve my coping mechanisms. It sucked. It’s great to be popular on the internet, but the mental demands it creates on you are intense. I had to recalibrate and learn to live in this new state of affairs. I have over 800,000 followers across channels. I will not and cannot please them all everyday and I would lose my ability to be happy if I keep trying to.

I am still working on it, being ok with where this has all grown to. I am tremendously uncomfortable with quasi-internet fame. However today while shooting I mentioned to my photographer and long time friend Joey I was considering leaving influencer work behind. He looked me in the eyes and said confidently, ” What you create is needed and I know you don’t feel strong enough, but you are. You were meant for this. You get to be the voice for people who aren’t always heard. That’s a gift.” As we walked into the sun to shoot I thought to myself, “here’s to never shutting up.”

Fur + Fair Isle: A Favorite Sweater Dress Pairing

Fur + Fair Isle: A Favorite Sweater Dress Pairing

Somedays you just want drown your face in a pile of stuffed animals. On those days I wear faux fur.  Then at any time during the day I can sweep my chin against the wafts of plush surrounding my face and feel at ease. I can also reenact 1980s skiing adds ( like down below) whenever it suits me. Look at me I am just having such a fun time at this sky resort, with all my rich friends, in our ski bunny attire and making important calls on our large cell phones.  Thanks for asking.

As a super pear I usually belt my fur vests. This is because I like to have a defined shape and often when wearing a fur vest my waist can get lost in swaddles of plushy fabric. I like a cinch to define my curves. It’s a thing.

A Round of Applause for Wearable Heels

plus-size-sweater-dresses-modcloth-holiday-4

I just want to give a quick shout out to heels that feel like flats. A once inch block heel changed my life.  I love the way heels make my feel, but for real yo I don’t know how any one survives in 3 inch stunners, let alone some of the crazy stilettos I see. I didn’t train to be in the circus. I have not intention to walk on stilts.  I don’t want to paint my face, wear, spandex and entertain you. Wait nope, I actually do want to do that. Just not on stilts.

A block heel makes me feel supported, and the inch height means even if I’m on my feet all day- like Gloria Gaynor- I Will Survive. Plus this red color perfectly mixes the “no place like home” wishes of Dorothy and the footwear that Elvis Costello reminded us only angels can be envious of.  Can I make any more song references in this post?  Well, woomp there it is (shaka laka shaka laka)

Profesh to Death Part 3: Hammer Time

Profesh to Death Part 3: Hammer Time

plus size work clothingI didn’t think an MC Hammer  inspired outfit would become one of my favorites; I KNEW its. There’s something about wearing oversized pants and gold lame that really gets my motor running. Plus, it’s like this challenge I accepted and conquered. It’s also led to me running to coworkers desks and occasionally screaming “HAMMER TIME” as I shimmy back and forth with such enthusiasm and gusto that only channeling the original Hammer could do. plus size work clothing

This outfit should be a joke. It shouldn’t be taken seriously. It’s so many textures, so many statements, so many conflicting styles. However, that’s exactly why it succeeds; there is an unexpected playfulness that makes a bold impression.    This look is the very definition of a fashion statement. I only wish I had been able to capture it on the street, surrounded by the whimsy of the city. Sadly, this look is office bound today. plus size work clothing

The quilted jacket is a golden wonder I snagged as a gift from Eloquii. Expect to see this blazer wonder many many more times this season. The pants were an impulse buy from the Monif C clearance section. While this pair is sold out, here’s an alternative I found a Lane Bryant that you could easily add straps to the side for the same affect. The athletic knit crop top is also a bargain buy, bought during a 50% sale, from Fashion to Figure.  The shoes are crocs. Mock me now, these things are comfortable AF while looking all kinds of cool. plus size work clothing

5 Gothic Inspired Swimsuits to Swoon Over

5 Gothic Inspired Swimsuits to Swoon Over

I have been noticing that these seasons plus size swimsuits have a sneaky streak of Gothic wonder in them. Gothic style is known for being dark, mysterious, and vintage inspired. Gothic fashion draws inspiration from Victorian arts and in some case punk subcultures. This season I’ve enjoyed seeing exciting uses of lace, hardware, and bondage elements in water ready garments.

As a girl who used to rock a faux hawk and loves a bit of magic, I am digging the romantic bewitching under tones of this cruise seasons beach wear. Here’s some swim looks that are sure to cast a spell on you, and that spell is lightening your wallet and officially  putting you on beach sass patrol.

Plus Size Mesh-Panel Swimsuit

Forever 21: Mesh Panel Swimsuit

I love the bondage feel of this suit and it reminds be of the complicated lines of traditional Gothic architecture. If harness straps don’t make you feel like a sex goddess, I am not sure what will. I can imagine pairing this with a velvet choker and a don’t give a funk attitude. This one piece is oooozing with confidence.

Lacheln Black Lightning Retro High Waist Bikini

Bonsoir Bella: Lightening Suit

This retro styles bikini in funky holographic lightening print is electric. Plus, it’s also versatile. I can imagine the top doubling as the perfect partner in crime with a black pencil skirt on a rocking night out. I am a sucker for sparkle, and this suit meets all my needs: Versatility, uniqueness, and cut designed to flatter and lady’s curves.

Vicieux Latex One-Piece Swimsuit

Le Noir Luxe: Vicieux Latex One-Piece Swimsuit

This suit is a winner for so many reasons first the latex look screams “I’m feeling that 50 shades of gray vibe” while the full coverage still provides support and coverage for those of us who feel more comfortable in a full piece suit. The deep plunge accentuates and highlights the girls, while still lifting and supporting them with sassy bondage inspired straps.

Ru 107 Arianna Black Lace Halter Bikini Top Arianna Black Lace

Rue 107: Arianna Black Lace Bikini

Get lacy and a little racy with this romantic black lace bikini from Rue 107. The fabric pulls vintage feelings while the cut is undeniably modern. This suit evokes a dark Victorian romance with a hint of mystery. It’s like you’ve got a secret and that secret is that you are sultry vixen oozing with confidence and a touch of girly flair.

Strappy bandeau bikini with hardware

Lane Bryant: Strappy bandeau bikini with hardware

This hardware bedazzled suit is ready for some, well, hard wear. This sporty take on the gothic trend, is a more accessible interpretation for the everyday girl. The metal accents are fun and flirty, and the playful take on the harnessing, makes this suit an easy way for any girl to throw an appreciative nod to the dark side.

Plus Size Fashion Round Up: What I Wore this Week

Plus Size Fashion Round Up: What I Wore this Week

Plus Size Fashion Summer Maxi DressMonday’s look screamed “SUMMMMMER” loud an clear. I kept it simple pairing a dress I scored for $15 off Groupon with some vintage jewelry I inherited from my mother. I added a super sassy pop of color with a pair of teal sandals from Target.

Plus_Size_Disney_Outfit_Sportswear_FashionTuesday I notched the weird factor up to an extreme and rocked this anime inspired look. I paired a t-shirt from my last visit to Disney World with acid jean shorts worn over purple disco pants (both from Amazon). I topped off the look with an Old Navy Sweat shirt, Nike Sky Hi Dunks and some earring from Sparkle City Jewelry made of actual sprinkles!!

Plus Size Fashion Career WearWednesday I kept it oh so classy while also keeping oh so fun. I paired a bright sexy secretary blouse from Monif C with a bold splatter painted skirt from Miss Guided. I accented the look with Crocs ( yes, Crocs!), a light up ring from Target, and my adorable pooch- Data.

Plus_Size_Romper_Outfit_Fashion_OutfitThursday I brought some juicy thighs and some tribal realness. I paired an adorable romper from Rue 21 with a vintage blazer from Calvin Klein. I accented my waist with a fun belt from Lane Bryant and styled the look with a top bun, some of my personal earrings, and that light up ring (again).

Plus_Size_Fashion_Street_Wear_Outfit_TshirtFriday is about comfort in the house of color and glitter. I let me favorite theme tshirt (from Woot) be the star of the show. I styled the look with a big sassy scarf bow. Because if I don’t wear at least on head bow a week, I get cranky.

Plus_Size_Fashion_Fatkini_Beachwear_OutfitSaturday I continued my tradition of rocking my finest swimwear. I strutter my stuff in a Forever 21 Fatkini with a scarf-turned sarong- that I purchased from Amazon. I styled the look with some well worn Tevas ( God, they are so comfy), vintage sunglasses, and again that little pink, light up ring from Target.

Plus Size Fashion Streetwear Casual OutfitToday’s outfit was a little bit of love for my new home state of Texas. I giggled hysterically at this Skinny Limits food truck. My life struggle as a mantra on a mobile machine of food. I’m wearing a chambray dress from old navy over Lola Getts leggings. I top the Look off with a Goorin Brothers Hat, a sassy obi belt, an Hermes scarf, vintage earrings and my favorite cowboy boots that I picked up in Brasil. Lets not forget the amaze balls Texas straw which I snagged from Five Below, the one store that I really feels understands all my kitsch needs.

And that’s the week in review. That’s it. There’s no more. I swear. Stop reading. The End.
