Today’s fruity plus size outfit inspiration is plucked fresh from the vine and ready for your fashion tastebuds to explore. This sassy and currant look gives a purple punch to the day, with rebellious undertones and an artsy flair.
I like taking inspiration from life when I plan outfits. Instead of trying to dress up like the celebrity do jour, I think about what faces me that day. So for example, if I need to be creative I’ll make sure my outfit is inspiring. If I need to be professional, my look will be reaffirming. If I need to feel sexy, my threads are my fashion pheromones. Every day I think about what I need to be, and my clothing supports me in my journey.
As soon as I opened this rich currant peasant blouse from Ellos, I knew I wanted to do an plus size outfit that riffed on the beatnik scene of the 60s. The shirt spoke to me of injustice and rich, dark coffee. It spoke to me of Jack Karouac conversations and the down trodden misunderstood youth of the world. One could argue the millennial perspective is just a re-envisioned display of gritty exploratory nature of our parents/grandparents generation’s subculture. Whoa, I am rocking some deep thoughts this Tuesday morning. Deep. Deep thoughts.
I may have never said this before, but every girl should own a statement vest. I was so pleased the camera actually captured the chiffony, semi-opaque realness this vest boasts. It provides a nice peak of not only the the bold grafitti prints pants but also the berry beautiful blouse below. The seaming provides a nice visual interests that elevates the look.

Unless you are blind or don’t have the internet or never leave your house or whatever you’ve probably noticed the bodysuits are cropping up EVERYWHERE. Those little snapped gussets are taking up all our clothing racks and invading our fashion lives. I have mixed feelings about body suits. Yay! No more tucking shirts in repeatedly. Boo! I can’t maneuver those snaps when drunk. Whatever you opinion, body suits are definitely trending for fall.
I like to keep my body suit purchases to body looks, that are more dimensional than a standard singlet. If i am going to have to wrestle and snap I want to do it for the sake of fashion. In my opinion, a regular tank op just isn;t worth it. That said, this green number definitely is.
Another major hot look for fall is the return of disco rocking, jive talkin’ flare jeans. I applaud their arrival with a sigh of relief- skinnies are comfortable, but flares are luxe. Look mom, I can feel the breeze on my calves. However be careful about length; dragging, city dirt encrusted flares are not a good look.

For the next 5 days, I am going to be showing off my favorite fall trends, made for plus size bodies. To kick things off I’m showcasing one of my favorite trends- modern bohemian. This trend takes hippy vibes and mixes them with decidedly urban elements to create a new style aesthetic that is both nostalgic and modern. 
You can spot this trend cropping up everywhere if you look for the signs. First and foremost- deconstructed denim. Jeans this season provide a variety of washes all with a truly lived in feeling. Expect everything from hole filled denims, to completely reconstructed denims- like this pair from Lovesick.
Second there’s a return of bohemian inspired elements, on refreshing forms. Expect to see unexpected embroidery, folk style prints, and sheer prairie cuts ( like this dress from Eloquii). This shirt is a perfect example- its a refreshed take on a sheer over shirt with a Scandinavian inspired embroidery. The result is a cool way to pop some color, while still rocking an of the time silhouette.
Another unusually pairing is the resurgence of velvet on fashion forward and bold accessories. I am digging velvet chokers- because of my unhealthy love of all things 90s – like this one from alapopjewelery on Etsy. The key is a one per outfit rule, so I added a nod to this other fall fashion trend by adding a little funky chunky crushed velvet to my step.

So months a go I reached a dark place in my life. My underwear drawer needed a makeover- stat. I had been reduced to a few pairs of panties I loved, but were busted. Worse yet, had no clue where I had actually purchased them from. Sure I had other pairs of underwear, but every pair I seemed to buy fell apart on me after one of two wears or were cut so poorly I had to wear 30x my normal size. Basically putting on panties, was a daily sense of ugh. My bras were in just as poor a state. The underwires had started a rebellion and were leaving my over the should boulder holders in masses. I hated the way they felt. I hated the way they looked. I just plain hated them. Based on the state of my closest, I got my credit card out and began a Lewis and Clarke expedition through the land of negligee. Over the next 3 weeks I’ll be sharing my results.
First up, my favorite bralettes. Important thing to note: The more support you get, the less of the “I’m wearing pajama jam underwear” feeling you get. I feel like this is a necessary trade off, but I can’t help but ask the time traveling future me to Bill and Ted me back a solution where I don’t have to make trade offs.
Forever 21: These are the most comfortable bralettes I’ve come across. They’re excellent for adding extra support to a beach dress or to travel in. The cons: if it’s cold people will know, they offer less over all support than other bralettes and aren’t great as an all-purpose solution. These sell out fast, so if you see one, buy it. It wont be available for long.
Wet Seal: A new entrant to the plus size game, Wet Seal’s bralettes sell out less quickly than Forever 21 and offer comparable support. I am really digging their color options as well. I’ve had the opportunity to try them on, but unfortunately my credit card gave me a frowny face when it came time to purchase. 
Boohoo: These are my go to for sexy night looks, where I plan to wear the bralette as more of of a shirt than a bra. They fit well and have the best nipple coverage of the three bralette brands I have in rotation. That said, they still don’t have enough support to keep the girls from flying solo during a night of dancing.
Torrid: Torrid makes the best bralette for support hands down. They are well cut and cute. While they lack the extreme comfort of the less supportive bras, you wont have surprise boob movement or be able to tell the weather to strangers based on your nips. Over all they are still 100% more comfortable then a traditional bra, while providing oodles of sassy support.

My work life is pretty intense sometimes. So it wasn’t a total surprise when my boss was like “ you need to stay two more days in NYC.” But at the same time, I was totally unprepared. I had nothing to wear, literally. I had packed dresses in lieu of pants, so I had no easy way to rework an outfit from the last few days. Plus, I needed to be dressed to take a client out on the town Thursday night. So it’s not like I could just buy a few crappy t-shirts and make it work. I had to get crafty.
So I ran to forever 21 in times square, which just so happens is open until 2am. This is a gift from god, because all my normal, non-zombie hours were allocated to typing away at businessy documents or chillaxing with the clientele.
I walked through the store and just kind of went grabby hands, mostly because I hadn’t slept in several days and every minute spent shopping was a minute not sleeping.
I literally shopped in no less than 15 minutes and I really had no clue what I had purchased. I just wanted to sleep, so badly. So 2 black things, one white things, and maybe a sports bra went into my bag.
I consider this blind shopping as one of my greatest fashion stroke of lucks in my entire life. Because I woke up to the most amazing mesh leggings and this ridiculously cool vest. I luckily had a mesh sleeve t-shirt in my bag. Together they become a magical blend of cool and comfort.
Some think fashion takes all this thought. We think we have to plan everything out to perfection, but the best looks aren’t discovered like that. I find my best looks are when I have to make it work, when I don’t have things figured out, and I don’t have the time to over think it all. They become effortless reflections of self.
