Miami Part 1: The Dress Every Gal Should Own

Miami Part 1: The Dress Every Gal Should Own

I am in Miami for work for the next few days and I packed this uber comfy yellow dress that I featured in my recent Amazon haul. After a day of stressful Florida meetings, the one thing I wasn’t frustrated with was this frock. Usually I change into PJs as soon as I get back to my hotel room, but not in this dress. No in this dress, I shall have no pajama jams. Because when it comes to being comfortable, this thing does not play around. When I travel for work I rely on dresses I can throw in a bag and go- with out worries of wasting space or *sigh* wrinkles.  This number is the perfect example of what I love most in a travel dress. It’s uber flattering and, while basic, can easily be dressed up and down. This means I can make it work overtime and be re-worn when trying to pack light. There are also subtle details that makes it a not-so-basic staple, like the up and down seaming. The thing is $24, works for all body types, comes in a million colors and I firmly believe every girl should own one. I wasn’t paid to say that, I’m just simply a big fan of all the sunny vibes this mustard magic is putting out. This majestic tribal necklace- believe it or not- was an airport buy. Ok the airport in India, which for the record, has by far the best accessories I have ever seen. At $15, this necklace looks like it should cost $70 and an intimate knowledge the hipster wearable art scene. It’s eccentric and unique and just dang cool. It’s one of my favorite things Ive purchased abroad andgoes almost too perfectly with the mustard hue of this swing dress. Sadly I don’t know where you can pick up this exact necklace online, but I found this alternative that also makes a bold statement.
For shoes I am breaking so many people’s unrealistic fashion rules, and wearing Crocs- metallic gold Crocs with sparkle to be exact. I freaking love Crocs. Sure there aren’t always plastic luster clad wonder shoes that meet my day to day outfit needs, but the few pairs I have are lifesavers. Especially when I travel. And I feel bloated and gross. Crocs deal with my old lady like need for orthopedic comfort while still making look like I got dressed up fancy. Crocs, are a brand that started off fashionably challenged, and now are likely going to show up on the Jerry Springer to rub how much sexier they’ve gotten in your face. Or not. Maybe, that was just a weird funny thought I had. Before I talk about the finishing touches. Can we talk about Data’s cameo in this photo and how happy it makes me feel? I took theses photos while simultaneously chasing him around the terrace of my hotel. Here he’s sneaking back waiting for me to chase him again. Awww little nugget, I love you. DRAMATIC AND UNEXPLAINED SUBJECT CHANGE. I finished off this look with a low messy adventuress bun, simple make up in soft browns, a vintage grossgrain belt and my favorite motivational Be. Bangles. The result in an international look that as comfortable as it is effortless.

This Weeks Theme: Orange You Glad?

This Weeks Theme: Orange You Glad?

plus-size-fashion-blog-orange-mod-8

This week I went back to basics, well not fashion basics, but life basics. I took every photo myself, on an iphone. I did my hair, my make up and my editing. I felt back like I did when I first started blogging, but armed with a lot more knowledge in light, posing, and make up. I wanted to do this to show that you don’t need fancy things to make amazing content, images and styles. I wanted to remind myself that if I stripped away all the extras, I was still a fashion contender.  And I chose to do it all in my favorite color, orange.

Let’s take a hot minute to talk about this orange dress. I picked this unique beauty up at a thrift market in London. I remember the owner was frustrated she couldn’t get this baby to sell. Plus size girls didn’t regularly attend the market and it was too bold a print for the ones who did. This put me in an amazing position. I forked over five and I was elated. I should note this was 100% most definitely some women’s self-made garment. That makes me feel extra special when I wear it. I am supporting another plus women’s art. She probably never thought when creating the dress that half way around the world a blonde sass-bot would give it a reboot and love it just as much as I imagine she did. plus-size-fashion-blog-orange-mod-5

I love wearing it with this blue vintage inspired winter jacket gifted to me by Eloquii. Orange and blue are on opposite edges of the color wheel making this color combo, unexpected but at the same time cohesive. The styling or the two pieces flatter each other and the vintage aesthetic comes through creating a fun modern mod look. plus-size-fashion-blog-orange-mod-9

The boots, a surprise gift from Fashion to Figure, reinforce the modular design in the dress while adding a modern touch. I personally believe these boots were made just to wear with this dress. They are too perfect. They are like the papa squares print to the baby squares print in the dress. All together this look screams sass, confidence and the stories of multiple plus size women who loved fashion. plus-size-fashion-blog-orange-mod-10

Fall Fashion Inspiration: Jive Talkin’ Body Suit Rockin’

Fall Fashion Inspiration: Jive Talkin’ Body Suit Rockin’

Plus size fashion fall trends 2016Unless you are blind or don’t have the internet or never leave your house or whatever you’ve probably noticed the bodysuits are cropping up EVERYWHERE. Those little snapped gussets are taking up all our clothing racks and invading our fashion lives. I have mixed feelings about body suits. Yay! No more tucking shirts in repeatedly. Boo! I can’t maneuver those snaps when drunk. Whatever you opinion, body suits are definitely trending for fall.

I like to keep my body suit purchases to body looks, that are more dimensional than a standard singlet. If i am going to have to wrestle and snap I want to do it for the sake of fashion. In my opinion, a regular tank op just isn;t worth it. That said, this green number definitely is.

Another major hot look for fall is the return of disco rocking, jive talkin’ flare jeans. I applaud their arrival with a sigh of relief- skinnies are comfortable, but flares are luxe. Look mom, I can feel the breeze on my calves. However be careful about length; dragging, city dirt encrusted flares are not a good look.

OOTD: Multi-Color Magic

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

We all know I am a sucker for a bold, sassy, fearless, menagerie of color print, and this lovely faux wrap skirt from Nyata meets all my technicolor needs. I like this brand for a few reasons: First they don’t use numbers for their sizes and instead choose positive adjectives to describe each size on the spectrum. Would you rather wear a size 20 or a size “amazing.” I’d choose amazing any day, because I am every day. Always. Self love, high five yah’ll.

Second, is the meaning in the name of the brand itself. Nyata means “real” in Indonesian, and Amber the designer created the label to encourage women that regardless of their size they are a real person, and important part of this magical world.

Lastly, Nyata boasts lots of staple prints. The type of timeless patterns that I believe endure beyond a single season. I believe every girl should own one bold printed frock that emerges each year with the same bravado it radiated the year before. I feel these prints have those types of chops.

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

I love being bathed in colors and wearing this skirt just makes me happy. It’s the type of print you look down at and just smile because it’s a bold display of fabric emotion. How can a girl not be happy candy-coated in such lovely hues?

Plus Size Fashion Nyata

I wanted to keep the styling simple and let the skirt be the star. But life isn’t simple, and either am I. Let’s be real, I am complicated mess. At least my fashion sense is a true reflection of self.
