How to “Work” the Athleisure Trend

How to “Work” the Athleisure Trend

Athleisure wear is comfortable. Athleisure wear is cute. But athleisure wear is not work appropriate… or is it? I challenged myself to define a new fashion class.
Call it busleisure, workletics, jobsport or whatever other quirky new age name you want. I will simply call it comfortable at the cubicle, wearable at the water cooler, and baller at the board meeting.
This look perfectly encompasses the merger of my business and sporty self. The dress is a structured, funky yet, classic business look from Eloquii. However, instead of a predictable blazer I’ve paired this stunner  with a kimono style cropped work out jacket from Nike (no longer available, but I like this alternative).
To add a little more oomph to the look, I paired this fashion knock out with my favorite necklace from my home girl Nina Berenato and my favorite gold as eff sneakers (also from Nike, no longer available but here’s an alternative). The result is style that make you wonder- just wear is this girl going? She’s going to run the world, sir. She’s going to run the world.

Stripe Me Up, I’m Just Too Darn Cool

Stripe Me Up, I’m Just Too Darn Cool

Today was my ode to the relaxed cool girl look. Look at me wearing a cute dress with sneakers and a denim jacket- I am so damn cool. I wanted to be comfy, but I also wanted to look like I kind of made an effort. You know, in that “single mom back on the market going to the grocery store looking for produce… and new love”   kind of way. The layering of the floral mesh over the dress was a massive experiment and I’m beyond pleased with how it worked out. I love how some of the florals pop bright with the layer of hot coral behind them. Hot Coral, such an excellent band name. We could wear crowns made of seashells and the drummer could wear a  rainbow neck-brace with streamers that makes him look like a jellyfish. Clearly, I need a vacation… Outfit details after this adorable photo break. The striped hot coral dress is from Torrid, and also easily converts to a tube dress. It’s a nice little spring/summer essential. The ruffled floral mesh overlay is from New Look and I’ve knotted it just below the bust line to define my waist. This jean jacket is the only proof in my wardrobe that I am a successful crafter; I took an old Torrid denim jacket and hand painted the design on the back. My earrings were purchased in India, my sneakers from Nike (here’s a great gold sneaker alternative), and my glasses as a last minute splurge from Ashley Stewart.

In Portland, Adults Get Snowdays.

In Portland, Adults Get Snowdays.

Snowy day lady bad ass realness. A rebellious printed t-shirt/tunic/ skanky dress looks hip paired with a Nike plus off center zip up hoodie in the oh so of the moment color- mauve. Maurice’s leggings and Nike heeled sneakers ( I like this alternative) complete the look, while  the almighty mini bun proclaims to the world…. “I have a snow day and I’m about to do whatever I want with it. Watch me, people, WATCH ME.”

So I have learned a magical thing. When it snows in Portland, it’s not just the schools that are cancelled. Offices shut down. Campuses close. The entire city comes to an eerie grinding halt. The white stuff really freaks people out.

Or does it? While taking these photos I definitely happened upon a woman running in cropped pants. CROPS. IN. THE. SNOW. That means bits of icy terror are splashing menace-fully against her leg as she runs. Portland is weird. This proves it.

Meanwhile, I am suffering. Because I was all like ” I’m so cool… I don’t need no coat. I’ll tough it out.” This is mostly because coats are bulky when packing and I hate having to lug more than I absolutely  have to around the airport. But it turns out I was very wrong. I needed a coat. Heck, I needed a scarf, gloves, ninja warmth face mask, hand warmers, waterproofed moon boots, a portable heating pad, and maybe a sexy foreign lover to keep me warm.

Here I sit freezing cold in a world of snow. Regardless of how frigid I get, I will never turn down a good photo opp. Even if that means tackling mounds of snow, gross slush, and the harsh reality that I might lose my left arm to frostbite all for the sake of a good photo. And these photos are pretty darn rad. And thus I am content in my use of this snow day, because I look as cool today as Portland looks white.

OOTD: Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Fierce

So We Love Colors sent me some samples of a few things they are trying out new for plus sizes. Free things I would have bought anyways? SCORE! So when I opened their package and saw bright yellow tights staring back me, only one thing came to mind. It was a beautiful and sacred thing or which teen dreams are made of….

I feel like every since I saw this movie eons agos ( I will not how long to protect my age and let myself continue to lie about my age to quasi strangers who might google me when we inevitably fall passionately in love), I lusted after these outfits. They’re so color rebellious. They’re so hip. They were so unlikely to ever be made in my size.

Well times have changed. And I can easily find a hot pink bodycon dress and yellow tights.

Hectic Chaotic Mess: Sunday fashion Round Up

Hectic Chaotic Mess: Sunday fashion Round Up

This fancy pants plus size blogger had one hell of a week. First I suffered through what can only be called the death star cold. It was like all the snot from all the noses in the world decided to move into my respiratory system and executed a hostile take over. It was the worst. In the midst of all this, I found out I needed to be better by the weekend because I was flying to Paris! So basically my week was all: “hack hack. cough cough. What the hell am I going to pack? I need more Kleenex. Macaroons for every meal! Why is that Lifetime movie not on iTunes yet? cough cough. sniffle” Here’s a a round up of what I wore this week.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size FitnessOn Monday I got sentimental AND sporty. I combined deep thoughts with a sassy pair of City Chic clearance harem pants, a Forever 21 crop, and a Fabeltics tank top worn backwards. Because sometimes I do that- wear clothes backwards. I’m rocking my favorite pair of nike air max (they’re sparkley!) and wistfully dreamy gaze off into the sunset.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size Fitness 6On Tuesday I tried my first dress from Gwynnie Bee, this little Triste number.  Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I wore this stain glass masterpiece with a tutu from Charlotte Russe Plus underneath to ad a pop of pizazz and some extra length I desperately needed.

Plus Size fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size Fitness 2On Wednesday I took amazon scarf and tied it as a cute tube top. I layered it over a basic cotton staple skirt from Primark. I kept the vibe chill and sun rays soaked in by complementing the look with my favorite pair of vintage shades and my go to teva flip flops.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size Fitness 3Thursday meant round two of my Gwynnie Bee arrivals. I paired the this beach print dress from Jete with an orange crocodile belt and a cardigan from Forever 21. For accessories I wore basket weave shoes and gussied up my bun with a string of artificial flowers.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size Fitness 4Friday I had this weird 80s lazy rocker chic look going on. Check out my Madonna inspired lace fringe top from ASOS worn over a pink swimsuit top and leather look leggings from Macy’s. I wore my favorite worn out Clark’s brogues with a pair of aviators that somehow ended up in my house, but definitely aren’t mine.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size Fetival LookSaturday was little hippy dippie as created a quasi festival lucky, which I then proudly donned at the arcade. It was a festival of gaming! The peplum crop top is Eloquii paired with black leggings and a kimono from Swimsuits for All. I wore it all with my absolute fav metallic crocodile shoes from ASOS and necklace a friend purchased for me in India.

Plus Size Fashion Blog Outfit Ideas Plus Size TravelSunday’s look rounds out the comfort parade. I pared my mesh sleeved top with basic back leggings and a fringe scarf I made myself out of an old t-shirt. It might be the only craft I ever did successfully.I style the look with a delicious s’more frappacino and Crocs. Don’t hate on my Crocs. They’re comfortable and I love them.
