Elegant Little Details

When it gets hot, I don’t like wearing anymore on my body then I physically have to. So I pretty much give up all accessories, except for bold earrings that dangle away from my body and provide absolutely no extra heat.
I also say goodbye to most my make up. I basically commit to an entire season of waterproof mascara that’s proven itself to me that it can handle my excessive forehead sweat. Because by the time summer hits, my hair line is like a salty sprinkler or body fluid grossness. So when I shop for Austin’s 9 month summer, I cherish little details. Its the little flourishes that make something basic special; I can wear something light and airy but still feel fashion forward and hip. This look is the perfect example of this fashion shift. The scallop edge on these shorts from Torrid add a playful and happy twist to a basic ponte bottom. Also, they don’t show sweat, which is good because only Billy Madison can make looking like you peed your pants cool. The top is from Universal Standard and is beyond luxe. The fabric is butter and light, while also structured and crisp. The shoulder cutout gives just the right amount of pizazz, while creating an oddly useful vent. Get in here breeze… Get. In. Here.True to my typical spring swag I busted out these amazing colorful earrings I found on amazon while I was a lil tipsy. I wore a pair of fun Sam Edelman flats, relying on the print for flair and the style for comfort. There not available anymore, but I like this alternative.  Last I lobbed on my vintage inspired coach bag and a random few bangles and I was ready to run errands like a sunshine-fueled goddess.

My Anti Valentine’s Day Look

My Anti Valentine’s Day Look

People love Valentines Day, all dem hearts and chocolate and fancy wine and roses and sexy sexy underwear. Me, I love to HATE Valentine’s Day. I just think the whole thing is stupid, lame-o, sad pants, annoyed emoji face, tired. This may be because I am against holidays that use love to sell us stuff we don’t need or probably more accurately because I am soulless swarthy spinster with no gilded lover in sight. And don’t even get me start on those frivolous single awareness day parties. I don’t need a party to celebrate the fact I am single. I do that Every. Single. Damn. Day. Thank you very much. Except when I do my taxes, because there have been a few years I  have really considered getting hitched for a cheeky little tax break.

So Instead of getting all gushy gushy about the love in the air, I refuse to be caught in cupid’s chokehold. Instead I present you with my anti-Valentine’s Day outfit. Because I ain’t got not time for love right now. Move aside, boss lady coming through. This pale pink button down embroidered with “no time for love” is from Asos and is also available in straight sizes for you non-plus sized ladies. The black tank dress is a closet basic I scored at Old Navy. I paired the look with my comfy tevas (a modern take on the every day flip flop), an old belt from the back of my closet, and a metallic convertible clutch/shoulder bag I picked up on clearance at Coach.

Plus size fashion torridI am so proud of this look because I made this jacket. Did you hear me? I MADE THIS JACKET!! And by made I mean like dip dyed it and sewed  a million and one tiny sparkly butterfly patches to it’s back. So call me the Martha who rocked Stewart’s world. The Joann who upgraded her fabrics. The Hobby that got lobbied into a full force fashion trend. I have never been more proud of myself. I am a craft queen, and this denim jacket is my portable thrown.

Everything was look absolutely terrible. So just as we had given up we discovered this hidden, tucked away mystery space in my building. Littered with someones left over lunch, a giant soda, and crumpled baby ruth wrapper, all I could see if that the light was some how perfect. In the words of the almighty Tim Gunn, we were going to use this ragtag space and make it work.

Plus size fashion torridAnd with the internet of the entire building clutched between my freshly styled hands I modeled the hell out of that crawl space. After reviewing the first few photos, we knew the discovery was serendipitous. This outfit was  unusual and the quirky retro vibe of the room suited it. Neither the closet nor the look was your standard fare and they belonged together- like the two big lovely unexpected fantastic weirdos they were.

plus size outfit ideasIt’s funny because I found this look almost the same way I found the place we shot the photos. My original styling hadn’t panned out, and forced with a situation where I just had to made it work. I approached my closet like a 5 year old approaches their dress up box. I  put everything and anything on until I felt beautiful. The moment I donned yellow top and scarf and added the jacket I knew I had stumbled on something special.
