Pastel Floral Realness.

I hadn’t planned on blogging this look, but so many of you asked for details on this snazzy number. In short, thats why I am  here I am typing away at my keyboard to bring you pastel floral realness, that is also affordable and comfortable. Seriously this outfit is comfy AF.

The the floral skirt with NEON accents, is from Boohoo. I feel like i have to write that in caps because NEON deserves to stand out.  I paired the adorable skirt with a white frilly crop top also from BooHoo. Over top I threw a mauve faux leather jacket from Just Fab, but there is a similar one at Old Navy if you don’t want to join their subscription program.  The shoes are also from Just Fab as well. Sadly, I haven’t been able to find a similar style that affordable and available in a size 11.

The ruffle accent on this jacket is to die for.  It makes all my girlie fashion dreams com true.

This gives you an idea what the crop looks like with out the jacket. Still an awesome look for the warmer weather.

How to Find Your Own Personal Style

How to Find Your Own Personal Style

For a lot of people describing their style is easy. Gothy. Romantic. Alternative. Urban. Modern. However, I’ve never been able to quickly assign a word to how I dress. It’s simply too all over the map. After much thought, I’ve decided my style has it’s own definer- eclectic. I like taking styles that shouldn’t work together and meshing them into their own voice. I actually enjoy taking a piece that seems “un-me” and as Tim Gunn would say “making it work.” It’s like a colorful fabric puzzle that I get to put together with each look. The key to my eclectic style is curiosity and playfulness. I take items that seem opposite or counter to each other and try making them meld together into my own personal aestetic.  This outfit is a good example of the evolution of my own exploratory fashion perspective. Each piece from this look lends itself to a different aesthetic.  The Eloquii floral print skirt is romantic. The embroidered shirt from BooHoo is a touch of street wear with urban flair. The Eloqui jacket’s sleek cut and voluminous sleeves screams modern. The tasseled earrings, I found from a local street vendor, give a Latin vibe. The Amazon Fashion shoes scream girly. The rings, collected from my travels, give a global feel. However worn together, the style is simply me. When planning this look, I sorted through pieces in my closet. Swapping this skirt for that, trying various cuts for the top, and putting on too many shoes to remember. With each thoughtful tweak the outfit came together and I saw myself reflected in my clothing. There is a quote by Picasso that sums up how I feel about my style journey.

My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.

I developed a love for fashion and I became Glitter + Lazers.People think style is a talent, something you are either good or awful at. However, fashion like any art, is based on practice. The more you play and explore your tastes the more unique and strong your voice will become. For example, my outfit today is simply the result of all the failed outfits before it. Go forth and play. Find your voice.

Metallic + Velvet + Sequins? Going All Out

Metallic + Velvet + Sequins? Going All Out

plus-size-holiday-looks-sequins-charlotte-russe-1Sometimes you are given the opportunity to do more than just shine, you’re given the ability to full on neon on sign glow. Today was one of those days. See, I saw this camouflage jacket and I could have been subtle. I could have paired it with a theme tee and jeans. But there on the rack, the little copper stunner spoke to me. It said, “Anna , be bold.”
plus-size-holiday-looks-sequins-charlotte-russe-2And I listened. When fashion speaks to me, I keep these ears piqued. I soak in all the free inspiration. And then next thing I new I was digging in my closet for my old faithful blue velvet booties.
plus-size-holiday-looks-sequins-charlotte-russe-3The result is a whole lot of look. But, can we take a second to marvel at how awesome that look is? I look like a plus size fly girl and if In Living Color was still a thing I would be shimming my way onto your regular evening programming. plus-size-holiday-looks-sequins-charlotte-russe-4I feel like often fashion speaks to us and we refuse to listen, because it’s too loud, too bold, too unusual. Because the world tells us that being different and standing out are bad things. Blend, everybody blend.
plus-size-holiday-looks-sequins-charlotte-russe-5I decided some many moons ago that I was never going to blend well, so I might as well stick out like a sore thumb and just own it. So here I am metallic, sequined, and lifted on velvet raising one hand high in the air and dropping one booty low dancing it out to the joy that is being the weirdo you are and owning it.  And dangit, I look good!

Leave No Place UnSequined

Leave No Place UnSequined

plus-size-holiday-outfit-ideas-sequin-pants-boo-hoo-1

This week’s theme is sequins and what I learned from shooting in a little glitz and glam is that I- as hard as this might be to believe- need more sparkle in my life. There is something about a good row of sequins that makes everything brighter. They reflect and shine what’s around them, rather then selfishly sucking in the energy. I look up to sequins! Sequins are the type of people I want to be.

Reflect the Good

plus-size-holiday-outfit-ideas-sequin-pants-boo-hoo-2

Excuse me for what might be a far fetched tangent here, but it seems like sequins are a great analogy for life.  I love justifying my fashion obsession with philosophy, so hear me out. Sequins have a magical ability of shining brightly by bringing to life, reflecting and extending the light that surrounds them naturally. With out the light of others a sequin fails to be more than a bizarre plastic disc with a little lustre. However, with the help of a little external glow that sequin sparkles to life. It reflects the good of it’s surroundings, and in turn grows in beauty.

Fighting Our Culture

plus-size-holiday-outfit-ideas-sequin-pants-boo-hoo-3

We largely live today in a society that acts very much counter the way a sequin does. We measure our worth by how much do I control, how much I do , how much credit I receive, how much I achieve. To think externally and  about one’s community in counter to what we are taught. We are pressured into thinking from children that we are in some weird horse race, constantly battling to be the top. In this world of mes it’s hard to focus on the we.

Why The We Matters

plus-size-holiday-outfit-ideas-sequin-pants-boo-hoo-4

The more we focus solely on ourselves the more restricted we are in our potential. Let me explain. I am one person, with only a certain amount of talents, a limited sense of perspective and a certain mental capacity. I, by definition, am limited in what I can do.  I could focus all my energy in doing something by myself and still not have the right resources to do it.  However, when my goals and ambitions extend to include my community- viewing them as co-patriots to success rather than competition-  suddenly I have a pool of talents to resource from, a varying set of perspectives and many more chances to succeed.

It’s hard to wrap your head around, and I am certain I have not done the concept justice with these words.  Simply put, if you work to develop your community, your community will work to develop you and you will both be better than you could be individually.
